The initial need
taap.it already had a working product. Users could create and manage their resources from the application.
However, clients and partners did not have a complete public API that would let them:
- integrate taap.it into their own applications;
- automate the creation and management of resources;
- connect their internal workflows;
- build specialized tools on top of the platform.
At the same time, the mobile app and browser extension also needed a shared foundation to communicate with the product.
An API as an automation layer
We designed and developed an API architecture covering the product’s main capabilities:
- authentication and access management;
- workspaces and projects;
- links, domains, and pages;
- statistics and usage data;
- permissions and security controls;
- operations for internal applications;
- public operations for clients and partners.
The goal was not simply to make data available. Every operation had to follow the same business rules as the main product, return consistent responses, and prevent a user from accessing resources in another workspace.
A shared foundation for the whole ecosystem
The new API became the shared foundation for several uses.
The mobile app and browser extension use an internal interface tailored to their needs. Clients and partners, for their part, get a public API that lets them build their own automations.
This separation makes it possible to evolve internal applications without exposing their constraints to external integrators, while keeping shared rules for authentication, permissions, and business operations.
Making automation truly accessible
An undocumented API remains reserved for people who already know the system.
So we also built and maintained taap.it’s developer documentation portal. It brings together:
- getting-started procedures;
- authentication methods;
- references for available operations;
- usage examples;
- integration journeys in several languages.
Documentation is part of the product: it reduces dependence on the internal team and helps clients move faster from an idea to a working integration.
The impact
The mission enabled taap.it to have:
- a shared foundation for its mobile app and extension;
- a public API for clients and partners;
- better-controlled access and permissions;
- a clearer integration experience;
- a platform that can be integrated into workflows beyond its native interface.
taap.it no longer only provides a product to use. It also provides building blocks that clients can integrate into their own systems.
What this project demonstrates
This case illustrates another form of automation: giving a company and its clients a stable integration layer to connect products, trigger actions, and remove repetitive manual work.
We design APIs as complete operational products, with their users, rules, security, and adoption journey.
Make your product connectable
Are clients asking for integrations, working around your interface, or manually repeating the same operations?
